Our History

Originally founded in 1993 as Sooner Carpet Cleaning by owners Jim and Carrie Mitchell, this locally-owned and operated business has grown in reputation and services throughout the years and has consistently ranked among the highest in their industry by customers across the Oklahoma City metro-area.

Jim started Sooner Cleaning + Restoration in 1993.  He learned the business from a friend and soon decided he wanted his own company.  Jim worked in the field for many years as an owner/operator.  He grew the business and by the late 90’s had several trucks and a small crew.  Sooner Cleaning + Restoration has experienced steady growth since 2000 and now has a staff of 8-10 full-time employees.  Jim has honed his craft and worked diligently to educate himself on the various aspects of the business.  He is IICRC certified in Water Damage Restoration, Carpet Cleaning, Carpet Repairs & Reinstallation, Area Rug Cleaning, Odor Control, Color Repair, Upholstery & Textile Cleaning and Fire and Smoke Restoration.  He continues to maintain his certifications through continuing education and has the IICRC titles of Master Textile Cleaner, Journeyman Textile Cleaner, Journeyman Fire & Smoke Restorer and Journeyman Water Restorer. Prior to opening Sooner Cleaning + Restoration, Jim worked for various distributors and whole-sellers of electrical supplies in Norman, Ardmore, Tulsa and Virginia.  He attended the University of Oklahoma and Rose State College and played in the Pride of Oklahoma marching band.  He is an OU and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.  He also enjoys managing a fantasy baseball team in a league that started in 1987.  Jim met his wife Carrie in high school marching band.  Jim is a devoted father to Brian, Sam and Wyatt and enjoys working in his yard and having an ongoing project at his house.

Carrie Mitchell

Carrie has always been behind the scenes of Sooner Cleaning + Restoration since the beginning, but did not assume a full-time position until 2000.  Since then she has done every job except auto mechanic.  Carrie has attended management, marketing and business development training as it relates to carpet cleaning and water damage restoration companies. Prior to joining Sooner Cleaning + Restoration full-time, Carrie was the Executive Director for Health for Friends, a not-for-profit healthcare clinic in Norman.  She also was Director of Public Relations and Marketing for the Heartland Region of the American Cancer Society.  One of her favorite jobs was just out of college when she moved to Washington DC and worked on the staff of U.S. House of Representative Dave McCurdy.  Carrie received a BA in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma with a minor in History.  She was also a member of the Pride of Oklahoma marching band throughout college.  Carrie enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially if it involves good food or golf.  She is an avid OU fan and enjoys watching pro football.  She has been married to Jim for 25 years and has 3 sons – Brian, Sam and Wyatt.

Mike joined the Sooner Cleaning + Restoration staff in April 2007.  After several months learning the technician role, Mike moved into the office.  Mike is in charge of billing, the scheduling of jobs, creating the daily schedule and quoting jobs. He is IICRC certified in Water Damage Restoration and has attended Interlink Tile and Stone Cleaning class.From 2004 to 2007, Mike was a realtor with Old Town Realty and prior to that sold cars primarily with Travis Chrysler Jeep Dodge. Mike has a degree from the University of Oklahoma in Liberal Arts.  Mike’s hobbies include playing basketball, attending OU sporting events and concerts. Mike considers himself the biggest fan of the band “Kansas” and keeps a record of how many times he has seen them in concert. Mike is married to Nina and has two sons and one grandson.

Troy has worked for Sooner Cleaning + Restoration since January 2009. He brings a tremendous amount of experience in a variety of areas. Troy is IICRC certified in Water Damage Restoration and Carpet Cleaning. He has completed classes in tile and grout cleaning and repair & re-installation of carpet. In the 80's Troy worked as a carpet installer, eventually opening his own janitorial business. After several years he transitioned into a carpet and floor cleaning company. Later, he added water restoration to his services. In 2006 he worked for a local Heat & Air company as an apprentice. He also worked for a general construction firm where he focused on tiling and wood floor installation. When Troy is not working, he enjoys hunting and fishing. Troy is married and has three children.

Evelyn joined Sooner Cleaning + Restoration in September 2007.  She is the pleasant voice on the other side of the phone. She does most of the scheduling and takes most after-hours calls. Prior to Sooner Cleaning + Restoration, Evelyn was a full-time Nana to three daughters and 11 grandchildren. When Evelyn is not working she enjoys spending time with family, yard work and day trips with friends to see what our great state has to offer.  Evelyn is one of the nicest people you will ever have the privilege of meeting.
