So you just had your carpets cleaned by the highly trained professionals at Sooner Cleaning + Restoration. Now what? While we love to visit you to clean your carpets, we also want to empower you with the best tips and tricks for maintaining clean carpets after we leave!

LET IT DRY

Make sure you wait until the flooring is completely dry before you walk or place furniture on your carpet after a professional cleaning. By staying clear of the area while it dries, you’ll prevent dirt from drying INTO your fresh, clean carpet.

Make Vacuuming a Habit

We understand vacuuming is not everyone’s favorite chore, but by taking the time to vacuum your carpets and rugs every week, you can dramatically improve the appearance of your flooring! Make sure you run the vacuum over the same spot in multiple directions in order to get all of the dirt, hair, and particles out of those fibers.

High traffic areas may need more TLC than some of the less visited areas of your home. For example, hallways, entrances and living spaces may need to be vacuumed two to three times a week, whereas carpeting in a closet may only need to be vacuumed once a week.

REMOVE SHOES

Another trick to maintaining beautiful and clean carpets is to avoid wearing shoes in the house and on carpets. We recommend placing a door mat at every entrance of the household so that you can wipe off as much outside dirt as possible before entering. Combine that with kicking off your shoes once you are inside, and you’ll immediately reduce the dirt in your carpet!

Keep Up With Other Cleanings

Keep in mind that a lot of dust and debris comes from the air ducts and air filters in your home. By cleaning those out on a semi-annual basis, you can limit the amount of gunk that sinks into your carpet fibers to begin with.

REMOVE Stains IMMEDIATELY

This may sound like an obvious one but removing any accidental stains as soon as possible will help maintain your carpets in between deep cleanings. Common household stains include drink spillage, pet accidents, paint spills, and much more. To learn more on DIY stain removals, visit our blog post here!
